The North America F-100 Super Sabre was first flown on April 23, 1954, exceeding Mach 1.  It was teh world's first fighter jet capable of supersonic speeds during lvel flight.  Many F-100's were converted to the QF-100 which was used as a target drone.

This F-100 is rotting in the salt air in front of an plane museum in Galveston, Texas.
